Axe the TV license fee (and let's have a prog rock channel) PDF Print E-mail

Can’t the government do something about the waste of public money involved in pointlessly hauling 3000 people a week before the courts for not having a TV license fee? For crying out loud, this is the Digital age. Why should people who don’t even watch the BBC (the organisation that benefits from the fee) have to pay this subsidy for blatantly left wing dominated propaganda? Give me a channel like Sky Arts any day ('The Genesis Song book' was great on Monday night) - in fact can't we have a Prog Rock channel?

Is singing really that important? PDF Print E-mail

With yet another TV ‘talent’ show arriving, BBC’s ‘The Voice’, which will, no doubt, result in even more boring, bland singers emerging from the UK’s great musical ‘unwashed’, ProgYes asks the question, is singing really that important?

Are Backing Tracks ever acceptable in a live performance? PDF Print E-mail

Do you think it is valid for an artist to play live using backing tracks? Please join our debate. I actually think there are two extremes with this. There is the ‘Karaoke’, barmy end of it, where the person performing hasn’t recorded the backing track probably can’t even play an instrument and manually cranks the track to suit his/her pitch and then away they go. OK I suppose you can get an idea of whether someone can sing or not (as is usually the case), but there, the connection with musical performance ends.

Bring Back The Czars of Culture PDF Print E-mail

Yorview (ProgYes’s parent company) are proud to announce they have donated to the Jubilee Celebration decorations in Knaresborough – the place where ProgYes 2012 will take place in September.  Around the world, many Progyes listeners will have Presidents and all manner of associated political systems – here in the UK we quite like the Royalty. In the past Royalty and the Aristocracy have been big sponsors of music.

God Gave Rock 'n' Roll To You PDF Print E-mail

‘God Gave Rock ‘n’ Roll To You’ was, of course a famous song by Argent. I sometimes wonder if there was a lot more in that lyrical sentiment than we realise. Maybe it’s not just rock and roll, but everything that’s important to us we will be allowed to ‘discover’ as ordinary people (or amateurs). Consider the fact we now have widespread attempts to ‘professionalise’ and interfere in the musical world, with degrees in just about everything (including music journalism) and the result is, everything is simply getting worse.
